Castle Quay

This large development of appartments, shops and restaurants adjacent to the marina in St. Helier is the largest of Dandara’s new additions to the landscsape of Jersey. Two primes sites for a piece of large-scale sculpture were identified.

‘Catamaran’ by Stephen Cox, consists of one hundred and fifty granodiorite columns carefully arranged in differing heights to represent waves upon which five carved basalt boats – copies of those used by local fishermen on the east coast of India – will perch. A smaller element of the sculpture at the north end of the development will lead one down to the Marina to the main part of the sculpture. Vsitors will be able to walk through the piece as if on the sea bed; the moving masts of the boats in the marina contrasting with the fixed nature of the sculpture itself.

‘Wing’ by Christopher le Brun, will greet visitors at the entrance to the development. This large sculpture – almost eight metres in height – is, together with the disc, the column and the horse, one of the four key elements in Christopher’s oeuvre.
