Greve De Lecq

Gary Breeze, one of Britain's most eminent letter-cutters, draws his inspiration from the immediate surroundings of the work, the land and its legends. For this location he has cut a panel of Cumbrian slate with two linked lines of text – the names of the adjacent Paternoster rocks in Latin interleaved with the Lord’s Prayer in Jerriais. This is now placed on the façade of this development of flats by Style Group.

“The beautiful list of the names of the treacherous rocks just north of Jersey, arranged so they scan and rhyme, are carved and left unpainted, so that they seem slightly hidden behind the sailor's prayer, the two texts interwoven as they are in Jersey's maritime history”, Gary Breeze 2009
